This camp will consist of 6 hours of skill development, movement breakdown & game simulation where players will learn all concepts in 3 learning groups (see it, hear it, perform it) At the end of camp each day, players will play in a controlled game setting where they will work on implementing the skill work & material they learned from camp. Expect a ton of ENERGY & an extremely positive work environment throughout the camp! Players that have gone through Shehady Basketball camps have described it as "game changing & life changing" in both their development as players & their approach to work! We have developed thousands of high level players & Mark is ready to help you take your game to the next level! This camp in particular is where we like our players working to be vocal and become the leaders we want them to be when they head back to their school programs.
Players will be introduced to foundational concepts & footwork techniques that allow them to move more explosively & efficiently while learning the importance of footwork & how it allows us to create angles & scoring opportunities. A variety of different ball manipulation techniques will be taught that allow players to create angles/length vs. next level athletes. This will tie into game related concepts with things like creating space, having pace & putting us in a position to make reads, reading & reacting different offensive scenarios, reading ball screens, handling pressure, moving without ball, game shooting & much more.
Other topics include: handling pressure, first step breakdown, taking contact, post/wing entry passing, how to initiate an offense, performance training relative to basketball movement mechanics, effective leadership qualities, handling traps, how to utilize a 2nd pivot in the paint to create better finishing & passing angles, players will learn to change dribble pace, develop rhythm w/ basketball, how to create passing angles, how to finish vs. length in the paint, how to guard faster/quicker/more athletic players, how to shift body weight to sell angles, how to increase ball control & read time putting players in positions to make reads, how to create space for their shot, reading ball screens, shooting off pin downs, moving w/o the basketball, different leadership qualities that ensure they OWN THE GYM & most importantly how to work harder & smarter! All drills have a game application piece & Mark will explain how it transfer to game success.
Hourly Camp Schedule:
*Day 1 & Day 2 Schedule (Please note Day 1 & Day 2 differences highlight in parentheses)
*Throughout camp, players will have water breaks and power point presentations where they will take notes on the material they learned. We want players on the court learning 90% of the time because we find this most effective as we have learners both visual and auditory.
Day 1/Day 2: 9:00 AM-4:00 PM
(Day 1) 8:00 AM-9:00 AM/ Check in will start an hour prior to the start of Day 1. Arrive by 8:30 AM for check in to ensure you are not late and do not miss any content presented in camp. Players will receive a notebook, camp agenda, pack of t-shirts & a reversible jersey upon check in.
9:00 AM-12:00 PM/ Skill Development Part 1:
Players will learn necessary skills and details that allow them to be a more efficient, highly skilled, & high iq basketball player. Extensive footwork breakdown, different finishing techniques, fluidity and efficient movement principals that allow players to attack downhill, advanced ball handling techniques, handling pressure & playing through contact, game shooting, passing, off ball movement, developing a more explosive first step, utilizing loads off the dribble to create angles & space, how to increase read time & make good decisions on the floor, triple threat work, lateral movement, reading ball screens, etc. are just a few of the concepts that’ll be covered.
12:00-12:45 PM/Lunch time:
Lunch is provided Days 1 & 2. All lunch will be catered and brought to gymnasium for players to eat. Players may bring their own lunch if they please. We ask that all players MUST clean up after themselves or they will run during camp! We want to show the upmost respect to the gym owners that allow us to use their facility. Lunch time is a great time for players to take notes in their journal they receive prior to camp and review the concepts they’ve learned in their head. Also a great time for players to talk and mingle with one another.
12:45 PM-2:45 PM/Skill Development Part 2
3:00-4:00 PM/ Controlled Game Play (Day 2, game play will go 2:30-4:00 PM)
At the conclusion of camp every day, we want our players working to implement all of the skill work they’ve learned into game play. This will not be run around like a chicken with your head cut off time. This will be a controlled 3x3 or 4x4 scrimmage where we teach players things like timing, spacing, rhythm offensively, understanding proper defensive positioning, how to properly slow the game down and read, how to position themselves coming off screens, understanding how to create passing angles, how to put their teammates in position for success and much more. The better and higher iq the players look, the smoother the games will be. We are not intending on breaking rhythm but want to TEACH the game!! If players want to play mindless pickup, they can go to the Rec. We have found our controlled game play to be very successful for our students & have helped them become much smarter, high iq basketball players!
4:00-4:15 PM/ Post Camp Lecture/Leadership Presentation Notes
This will be a time to review the detail & content presented at camp. Players will have the opportunity to take notes & we will discuss room for improvement and areas we can be better as leaders during our post camp leadership lecture. We not only want our players more skilled leaving these camps but we want them becoming leaders of their program that step in the gym and make everyone else around them better! These are not only the players we find successful with basketball but life!
DAILY CAMP DEPARTURE: At 4:15, all commuting campers will be dismissed and may go home with their families. At 4:30, overnight campers MUST be ready to go and attentive for roll call to hear their shuttle number.
Day 3: 9:00-12:00 PM (ALL SKILL DEVELOPMENT)
This is primarily a skills camp and we want players being refreshed with our foundational concepts and movement/footwork breakdown before leaving camp. This is why we end with all skill work on Day 3. As players develop foundational pieces throughout camp and get more familiar with concepts, more game simulation will be added to agenda and the skill work will be more fast paced! Before we work harder, we must work SMARTER & create good habits!
12:00-12:15 PM: POST CAMP TALK!
Leadership lectures covered include mental toughness, success off the court, responsibility & financial management, etc! We will also cover where they go from now, how they should work & implement the skill work they learned on their own, virtual training options, etc.
Players Will Experience Details That Lead to Game Success Like Never Before!
We present all of our content in 3 models
Players Will Hear It - Each skills concept will be broken down into minute detail & footwork will be taught in progressions, ensuring players create good habits, understand how to rep it out on their own, & how it applies to the game! Everything Mark teaches is game applicable & he will break it down to where it's easy for players/coaches to understand.
Players Will See It- Mark will demonstrate every drill & show every drills "game piece" on how it applies to game. This is crucial for learners who are more visual, players must be able to see how to properly complete each drill. This will help players implement concepts faster in games & will help them understand the necessary details more extensively.
Players Will DO IT- Once Mark demonstrates & explains each drill/concept into detail, the players will rep it out during camp. Once players go through the drill/concept, Mark gets around to every single camper & ensures they are doing the skill set properly & helps players truly understand how each concept is used in the game!
Check In: Check in will start an hour prior to camp on Day 1 at 8:00 AM. We ask that you please show up no later than 8:45 AM to ensure your child isn't late and sees all the content presented at camp. Overnight campers, we highly suggest you get there a little early to drop off your luggage.
Players will receive a Shehady Basketball pack of t-shirts. a reversible jersey, journal as well as an agenda upon walking into camp (this is included in $375 cost). We ask that you please register here online or please call 412-979-9101 to discuss alternative registration options.
